Design Choices
The intent of the Arthur Avenue project is to reconstruct the affected intersections and adjacent segments to comply with the geometric design criteria for an urban principal arterial, as presented in Figures 12-2 (see Figure 12.2a [JPG, 137kb] and Figure 12.2 [JPG, 164kb]) and 12.7 (see Figure 12.7a [JPG, 111kb] and Figure 12.7 [JPG, 166kb]) of the Road Design Manual, and as presented in the Geometric Design standards.
The final configuration must balance capacity and safety, and must accommodate a wide variety of vehicles, bicylists, and pedestrians. One option under consideration is a roundabout configuration.
We plan to employ context-sensitive design concepts to achieve these goals.
