Getting Involved!

Involving the public in the planning process is the core of the Integrated Resources Plan.  During the first phase of the project (now completed), the City took a proactive role in soliciting public input and involvement.  The City is continuing this approach during the second, more detail phase, which is currently underway. The intent of stakeholder involvement process is to be broadly inclusive of interests in the city and region, representing the cultural diversity and spectrum of interests in the City of Los Angeles and its many communities.

The Integrated Resources Plan includes three levels of public involvement, each with differing roles and time requirements  These three levels, and their commensurate levels of commitment, are summarized below:

Steering Group: Members of this group will represent the Los Angeles population as they provide their inputs/concerns. Members of this group must commit to attending a total of 13 half-day workshops, conducted quarterly over a three-year period.  A series of workshops are the fundamental activities that the Steering Group will use in the participatory decision-making process. At these workshops, the Steering Group will have two basic roles:

  • Provide an on-going input on a regular basis on technical, environmental and financial development of the project, and
  • Consider key project issues, such as facilities siting, implementation risks, and acceptability of costs that will invariably arise during the project.

Members are expected to review materials provided, and to prepare themselves in advance of the workshops. Members will also be expected to inform their colleagues in the organizations, companies, and/or agencies they represent about the major milestones and recommendations of the IRP efforts.

Advisory Group: Members of this group will represent those organizations whose needs are satisfactorily addressed through active monitoring of project progress.  Through quarterly evening meetings over a three-year period, members will have the opportunity to provide comments and suggestions and make observations for consideration by the City of Los Angeles and the Steering Group.  Members will also be expected to inform their colleagues in the organizations, companies, and/or agencies they represent about the major milestones and recommendations of the IRP efforts.

Information Group: All interested parties are invited to stay informed of the facilities planning effort.  Members of this group will receive periodic newsletters to inform them of major milestones and recommendations of the IRP effort.
