Candidate Projects and Pilot Projects The Candidate and Pilot projects were selected to illustrate the types of projects that could be eligible for funding through the San Pablo Bay Watershed Restoration Program. Based on their likelihood of success, three Pilot Projects were selected: Las Gallinas Creek, Pinole Creek and American Canyon Creek. The evaluation of the Pilot Projects was based on a review of:
Although they are not guaranteed support, the next step for the three Pilot Projects is for their project sponsors to work with Program sponsors to accelerate implementation and optimize their chances for success. In other words, the Pilot Projects have progressed to a point where it is appropriate for their sponsors to begin communication with Program sponsors about formal planning and funding. In addition to the three Pilot Projects, thirteen Candidate Restoration Projects were identified through the public scoping process. These Candidate Projects are in a more preliminary state of design than the Pilot Projects, but have been selected as likely to advance the goal of aquatic restoration throughout the watershed. As with the Pilot Projects, the designation as "Candidate" does not guarantee that these projects will qualify for assistance from the San Pablo Bay Watershed Restoration Program. It is rather an indication that they generally are the type of restoration project that the Program would like to see pursued. Most of the Candidate Projects have been conceived and under consideration for some time and have the public support necessary for a solid foundation. However, most of the Candidate Projects have yet to develop detailed restoration plans, and many still need to be integrated with other efforts in their respective sub-watersheds.
