Spatial Data Download Page

Most of the spatial data used to create the maps for this web site were obtained from government agencies, or other providers who distribute data free of charge. Even though most can be redistributed, the creators of this web site believe that you are best served by obtaining the latest data directly from the sources.

To that end, we have included below information about each spatial data layer displayed on this web site. Spatial data layers created specifically for this restoration program may be downloaded directly from this site. For all other layers, you will need to follow links to other sites.

The spatial data layers described below include:

Bay Area Shaded Relief Map

The shaded topographic relief map displayed on this web site was obtained from the USGS web site under Open-File Report 97-745 B. To download the ARC/INFO source data directly, go to the USGS web site at http://wrgis.wr.usgs.gov/open-file/of97-745/of97-745b.html.

To make this data usable for ArcView users, the ARC/INFO data was converted to a georeferenced TIFF file that can be used within ArcView (UTM projection, Zone 10, NAD27 meters). To download this file, click here. WARNING: this file is very detailed and covers the entire San Francisco Bay Area. It is over 58 MB and will take an extremely long time to download without high speed internet access.

County Boundaries

The county boundaries displayed on this web site were obtained from the National Wetlands Inventory using the Wetlands Interactive Mappter Tool. To download the source data, go to the NWI site at  http://wetlands.fws.gov/.

The San Pablo Bay Watershed includes portions of the following counties:

  • Contra Costa  (#06013)
  • Marin  (#06041)
  • Napa  (#06055)
  • Solano  (#06095)
  • Sonoma  (#06097)

Land Use

The land use data displayed on this web site was obtained - by license fee - from the Association of Bay Area Governments. It was compiled as part of an ABAG study conducted in 1995 by Jeanne Perkins. Because of its proprietary nature, land use data in GIS format cannot be downloaded either directly from this web site, or from ABAG's web site. Contact ABAG directly if you are interested in obtaining land use data.

Roads

The road data displayed on this web site was obtained from the National Wetlands Inventory using the Wetlands Interactive Mappter Tool. To download the source data, go to the NWI site at  http://wetlands.fws.gov/.

Streams #1

Some of the streams data displayed on this web site was obtained from ESRI using ArcData Online. To download the source data directly, go to http://www.esri.com.

Streams #2

The streams spatial data displayed on the wetland maps was obtained from the National Wetlands Inventory using the Wetlands Interactive Mappter Tool. To download the source data, go to  http://wetlands.fws.gov/.

Water Bodies

The water bodies displayed on this web site was obtained from ESRI using ArcData Online. To download the source data directly, go to http://www.esri.com.

Wetlands

The wetlands data displayed on this web site was obtained from the National Wetlands Inventory using the Wetlands Interactive Mappter Tool. To download the source data, go to  http://wetlands.fws.gov/.

Watershed Mask

Because many of the data layers cover areas beyond the San Pablo Bay Watershed, Camp Dresser & McKee Inc. created an ArcView shapefile mask that, when placed on top of other GIS layers, blocks out everything outside the watershed. It is in UTM projection, Zone 10, NAD27 meters. Download this data layer.

Major Subwatershed Boundaries

The major subwatershed boundaries (Napa River, Sonoma Creek, Petaluma River, Novato Creek, Las Gallinas/Miller Creek, and West Contra Costa) were digitized by Camp Dresser & McKee Inc. from 1:100,000 scale USGS quad maps and adjusted with the aid of the shaded relief map. These boundaries have been combined into an ArcView shapefile, in UTM projection, Zone 10, NAD27 meters. Download this data layer.
